Back with when Call of Duty Elite was released it was crowned as being the next wave of gaming. Bring social groups to the next level and providing a team orientated group of challenges that rewarded those who spent the time and put in the work.
Modern Warfare 3 and Infinity Ward used these features to an extent where the gamer was motivated and energized to continue playing because of the rotation of challenges and the benefits that could be obtained by meeting the achievements. Who doesn’t want to earn double experience points (xp) for their entire clan?
On the announcement of Call of Duty Black Ops 2 one of the hype points was Call of Duty Elite would be free. The plus of this was that way everyone could have the option to be involved with contributing to clans without paying a yearly fee. I get the marketing angle and the ability to get even more gamers interacting and playing more but there is one issue they overlooked. They stopped giving the gamer the incentive. Where are the achievement bonuses? Why did it take months to get clan challenges going?
Its become clear that unlike Inifinity Ward, Treyarch has no interest in Call of Duty Elite since there necessity to appease consumers is now gone with the arrival of the no charge service. What a waste. Rather than take it to the next level and carry on the torch from Modern Warfare 3 they would rather let it fizzle and not deal with it.
